Department Overview
PANDA’s scope of care includes patients ranging from premature newborns to pediatric patients up to the age of 18. PANDA is a specialty transport service for inter-facility transports. PANDA does not respond to scene calls. Patients over 18 are considered on a case by case basis and can only be transported to a pediatric unit. PANDA is accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services (CAMTS)
Function/Duties of Position
PANDA staff are expected to be able to be of useful assistance in lifting patients and equipment into an ambulance, fixed wing or helicopter. Heavy carries are typically less than 10 feet. Sitting may be crouched, cramped, or otherwise out of position. Must be able to step-up two-feet to board helicopter.
Must be able to travel in planes, helicopters and ambulance. Employee will be exposed to all types of weather. When loading and unloading there can be exhaust fumes. Good hearing and vision is required. (Hearing aids and corrective lenses are acceptable).
Employee must be able to wear hearing protection, safety glasses, and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Cannot weigh over 250lbs when dressed in flight suit, helmet and boots
In addition to all hospital occupational health requirements employee will complete a hearing screen and health assessment annually. Weigh ins will occur every 6 months. For those employees that weigh over 240 lbs but less than 250 lbs quarterly weigh ins will be required.
Due to the independent nature of transport, it will not be infrequent that the PANDA RN and RT will run a code or a neonatal resuscitation without the in-person support of a Physician, therefore it is essential that there is context in which to put the education received in Advanced Life Support or Resuscitation course. Therefore, PANDA team expectations for having these certifications is different than the current OHSU process.

Required Qualifications
- 3 years Pediatric Intensive Care and/or Neonatal Intensive Care Experience required.
- Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum: Within 1 year of hire for new transport personnel; at time of hire for those currently on a transport team.
- BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
- ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
- Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
- Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
- BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- BLS must not expire during orientation
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
- 5 years Pediatric Intensive Care and/or Neonatal Intensive Care Experience preferred.
- Critical Care Registered Nurse Certification
- Certified Flight Registered Nurse
- Certified Neonatal Pediatric Transport
Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse
- External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
- Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
